Timelapse videos - first experiments

I’ve since long been interested doing timelapse photography - or cinematography - which ever you prefer.

Recently I started doing some experiments with the hardware and software to see what it would take to make some short timelapse movie. In September we raised the top portion of a tower into place at our local radio club and this gave me an opportunity try in practice doing it.

Since I don’t have the simpler hardware for doing the shooting at predefined intervals, I used my MacBook Pro teathered to Canon 400D to do this shoot. The software used was Canon’s EOS Utility. Editing of the raw files was done in Lightroom and then I did a Photoshop action to make 480p and 1080p sized images. Final merging of images to video was done with Quicktime Pro.

There are 2 different versions of the video, one played back at 15 frames per second and other 25 frames per second.

Low-resolution versions:

15 frames per second

25 frames per second

High-resolution versions, only for high end systems:

15 frames per second

25 frames per second
